Audacity of Hope and triumph of Human Spirit

Poor and resource less father could not gather courage to go to the nearby town to meet a VIP from state capital and seek some help for his audacious daughter who was adamant to continue her pre- matric studies even as her two brothers lost all motivation to continue schooling. Father Biranchi Narayan Tudu was in dilemma, he did not have clean and appropriate pair of cloths to wear and stand before a visiting Minister to urge him recommend  her  daughter for admission in a girl hostel meant for tribal girls. Daughter Draupadi refused to give up. She got full support of grandmother who to some extent received informal education in her village. Finally Biranchi permitted Draupadi to try her luck on her own. Little Draupadi, with a bunch of papers, certificates and an application, went to meet the VIP and urged him to help her in getting admission in the hostel at the state capital Bhubneswar. State government ran the hostel and college bearing the expenses of the tribal girls staying and studying there. Entourage informed the minister that a little girl from nearby village wants to meet him. The minister saw the little girl, a dazzling zeal for learning on her face. He recommended her and that was the turning point in the life of Draupadi Tudu, life which had in store many turning points sometimes reducing the life to a pointless pass; And, suddenly phoenix rising from the ashes.

Tudus are traditionally musician folks in the tribal community but in Draupadi's life the melancholic note was ear deafening. Audacity of hope transformed the sad music into a celestial symphony of joy and jijivisha and India and world at large, hopefully, would soon hear the life inspiring ragas from the Raisina Hills.

Biranchi Nrarayan Tudu,a Santhal tribal was named after lord Brahma (Biranchi),the creator  of universe and Vishnu (Narayan) the preserver .But he, all  his life, struggled to  preserve his creations . He named his daughter Draupadi after the ’fiercely independent’ and ‘ruthless pursuer of goal’ character of Mahabharata- Draupadi,, sister of lord Krishna. Sister was one the causes of Great War of Mahabharata and sibling was facilitator of a righteous war that consumed much of the material existence and possession. What mankind still remembers and cherishes is the battle sermon of the brother, Bhagavad Gita. Indian parents don’t prefer to name a girl baby as Draupadi, the lady with five husbands. But that is not the case in Odisha state, where Krishna mythology dominates all spheres of life. Even tribal people are closely connected to this mythology and their unique folk gods and goddesses, culture and festivals are favorably encompassed into Jagannatha universe.

 Draupadi Tudu was enrolled in class eighth in Bhubaneswar in early 70s and for the next seven-eight years single mindedly pursued her studies. After getting a graduate degree she returned back to her village to support siblings and devote herself to uplift her tribal community. She began teaching the tribal children. She found a clerical job in irrigation and power department and as an educated woman found her life partner in Shyam Charan Murmu, a bank officer. The couple shifted to the nearby town Rairangpur, a notified area in Mayurbhanj district. And this town and surrounding villages became karmbhoomi of Draupadi Murmu. (Contd.)

Varanasi. Indian ambassador RK Nehru, sometimes in 1950s , invited Chairman Mao Tse-tung to dinner. The Chairman accepted the invitation, a rare gesture from Head of State and that too Mao. On his part Mao expressed his desire to watch Hindi movie "Jhansi Ki Rani", produced in 1953.
 The film reels were brought from New Delhi and the film was screened in the Indian embassy. Like any other Indian movie, the film was very long. The Chairman was intently watching the film, sitting on a chair and resting his feet on a stool .It was still running when clock ticked 1.30 AM Mr Nehru, understanding the nervousness of the Chinese security men, worked out a trick to shorten the film by removing some reels.
Mao was quick to notice some deletion in the running film and inquired about it. The reels were then properly arranged and Mao enjoyed the film till the end. ( from book Dateline Varanasi)

क्षेत्रीय तथा वैश्विक परिपेक्ष्य में, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, शांति तथा सुरक्षा का एक मुख्य स्तम्भ है । भारत 12 साल की observership के बाद आज SCO की सदस्यता ग्रहण करेगा । हमारी सदस्यता के समर्थन के लिए, मैं SCO के सभी देशों का हार्दिक आभार प्रकट करता हूं। सदस्यता की expansion के बाद SCO विश्व की लगभग 42% जनसंख्या, 20% GDP तथा 22% भूभाग को represent करेगी। अत: SCO की प्रगति विश्व के विशाल जनमानस तथा भूभाग की उन्नति है।

आतंकवाद मानव अधिकारों तथा मानव मूल्यों के सबसे बड़े उल्लंघनकारियों में से एक है। अतः आतंकवाद तथा अतिवाद के खिलाफ संघर्ष SCO के सहयोग का अहम भाग है। मुद्दा चाहे radicalization का हो, terrorists की recruitment का, उनकी training का, अथवा financing का, जब तक हम सभी देश मिलकर इस दिशा में coordinated तथा सशक्त efforts नहीं करेंगे, तब तक इन समस्याओं का समाधान असंभव है। इस संदर्भ में SCO द्वारा किए गए सुदृढ़ प्रयास अत्यंत सराहनीय हैं। मुझे पूरा विश्वास है कि भारत-SCO सहयोग आतंकवाद के खिलाफ लड़ाई को एक नई दिशा तथा शक्ति प्रदान करेगा। क्षेत्रीय परिप्रेक्ष्य में अफगानिस्तान में शांति तथा स्थिरता भी SCO के प्रयासों से लाभ उठा सकती है। वैश्विक संदर्भ में पर्यावरण बदलाव की समस्या पर भी SCO अपना ध्यान केंद्रित कर सकता है। इस संदर्भ में, Astana Expo 2017 में "Future Energy" को थीम चुने जाने पर, मैं Kazakhstan को और राष्ट्रपति जी को ह्रदय से अभिनंदन देता हूं।

Amartya Sen : Dreaming of a coup through President
Varanasi. Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, just yesterday was dreaming of an open revolt by people against Narendra Modi government over demonetisation. Nothing happened . On the contrary, Modi got unprecedented mandate in Uttar Pradesh.
Sen was not the only doomsayer; many others, including sitting judges, were expecting cash riots on the streets of New Delhi and other cities and towns . But Sen did not give up. Now he jumped into election campaigning in favour of Mahatma's grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi in the forthcoming elections.These days, apparently, he is reading Indian constitution, whether a president can take political decisions overriding elected government and cabinet. Argumentative Indian thinks a sane, sensible and assertive president can act on his own to safeguard Indian constitution. He says, " President is not a rubber stamp".
Gandhi's candidature is not yet decided; but his credential are impeccable. He , two decades ago, had been  a babu for a few years in Rashtrapati Bhavan serving as secretary to then President KR Narayan. And then Rashtrapati Bhavan was allegedly used to undermine and destabilise Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Vajpayee governmewnt survived the conspiracies before it was ousted in the general elections. In Modi's case his reelection is all but certain in 2019; so babu's services are needed more than ever. Problem is that electoral equations are against the babu and his mentor Amartya Sen.
As things stand today, Narendra Modi's likely choice for Raisina Hills is Governor Mrs. Draupadi Murmu, a tribal woman from Odisha. And she, in all probability , will take salute as Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces during  Republic Day parade on Rjapath on January 26.

He showed Kelly her place while addressing her in tum term instead of  aap. In Hindi language, in a formal gathering, a person should be addressed as aap with appropriate verb.  Modi began with aap but preferred verb used for pronoun tum- "aap charcha kar rahi ho" instead of "aap charcha kar  rahi hain". It is Modi's way to belittle a person.
Modi, just before the group interview, perhaps, fathomed Kelly's journalistic skill and knowledge when lady asked foolishly, are you on twitter! A  world leader with 30 million followers took time and labour to surf Kelly's twitter account  before meeting the anchor. Kelly on the other hand , with typical American ignorance and inflated ego, did not do her home work. Modi often throw first question on an interviewer, when he obliges a journalist to interview him , have you done your homework? So, when Kelly asked, are you on twitter ? Modi treated her with disdain at a time of his choosing. And moment came when Kelly tried to push Modi in US election interference mud. Modi said, " You are talking about US, Germany, Russia and big leaders like  Trump, Merkel, Hillary and Putin. I am too small a person to act as a lawyer for these leaders." This is typical Dobia Paat manoeuvre of Indian wrestling, Dhobia Paat is used against opponent just like a Dhobi (washreman) beats, washes and dashes the cloth on a stone slab. What Putin could not do, Modi did for his time tested friend.
Kelly, no doubt, framed her question intelligently . She asked,  Modi, do you believe  Putin that Russia has nothing to do with state sponsored interference in US elections ? "state sponsored interference" is akin to "state sponsored terrorism", an Indian  refrain aimed at Pakistan. Modi knows all the tricks of journalists and blunted the Kelly's arrow with Modian precision .
Modi in contemporary world politics is undoubtedly best media handler and media tamer.
